Saadiyat Cultural District is Set to Be Completed in 2025
The UAE mega-project is 76% finished, with only the Guggenheim and Zayed National Museum left to be completed.
The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum, two of the UAE’s most anticipated museums, are one step closer to their respective grand openings. According to the Department of Culture and Tourism, the Saadiyat Cultural District mega-project is approximately 76% finished, and is set to be completed by next year.
The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will showcase a selection of modern art from the 1960s to the present, and the Zayed National Museum will be the centrepiece of the Saadiyat Cultural District, a monument and memorial to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
As well as the two most-anticipated institutions, the district will include the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, which will feature a research and teaching centre, and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, a cutting-edge art installation collaboration with Tokyo art collective teamLab. These will join the already-completed Louvre Abu Dhabi, which welcomed its five-millionth visitor in March, the event space Manarat Al Saadiyat, and the music conservatory Berklee Abu Dhabi.
Conceptually, each landmark within the project tells a story of the evolution of the UAE, and of mankind, with the hope that it will one day become something of a global cultural time capsule.
