Saudi Arabia Ranks Highest in G20 for Neighbourhood Safety

Saudi Arabia has ranked highest among G20 nations for neighbourhood safety and for residents' confidence in walking alone at night, according to a survey conducted by the General Authority for Statistics.

The survey found that 92.6% of residents feel safe walking alone in their residential areas after dark. Among Saudi individuals aged 15 and older, 80.6% reported a strong sense of safety, with the percentage increasing to 84.5% among those aged 60 to 64.

The ranking was determined by comparing Saudi Arabia’s family socio-economic survey results with data from the top seven G20 countries in the 2023 safety index. The report emphasised the role of state institutions in maintaining security across various sectors, including economic, food, environmental, health, social, political, intellectual, technical and cyber security.

Saudi Arabia’s high ranking was attributed to extensive efforts by security agencies, which have implemented long-term strategies aimed at ensuring stability and public safety. A strong relationship between a peaceful society and proactive security institutions was identified as a key factor in achieving high safety rankings.
