School Bus Journeys Capped at 45 to 60 Minutes Across the UAE
New limits set 45-minute cap for kindergarten pupils and 60 minutes for other students.
School bus journey times in the United Arab Emirates have been capped at 45 minutes for kindergarten pupils and 60 minutes for all other students, following concerns raised by parents about lengthy daily commutes.
Minister of Education Sarah Al Amiri outlined the limits during a session of the Federal National Council on Tuesday, where transport duration was discussed in relation to student welfare. She said compliance with the approved journey time caps reached 98.5% during the first term of the current academic year, describing this as an improvement compared with previous years.
According to Al Amiri, average journey times have been reduced by 50% under the current system. She noted that limited exceptions may occur on certain days due to circumstances beyond the ministry’s control, including traffic accidents or adverse weather conditions.
The Ministry of Education conducts regular reviews of bus routes and has established a dedicated transport quality unit within its organisational structure to monitor daily operations and address complaints related to school transportation.
