Sharjah Deploys 405 Tankers & Pumps Ahead of Rainy Season
The plan fields 183 tankers, 186 high-capacity pumps and six rapid-response vehicles, plus 30 new pumps, coordinated with police, transport, public works and civil defence.
Sharjah City Municipality has stepped up its preparations for the upcoming rainy season, deploying an expanded fleet of tankers and pumps and completing large-scale maintenance works aimed at reducing water accumulation and keeping roads operational across the emirate. The municipality announced it has mobilised 405 tankers and pumps as part of an integrated operational plan that brings together specialised field teams, modern equipment and a diversified fleet. The plan is being implemented in coordination with Sharjah Police, the Roads and Transport Authority, the Public Works Department and Sharjah Civil Defence to ensure rapid response during periods of heavy rainfall and adverse weather. The Supreme Rain Emergency Committee said the committee has been restructured into five specialised subcommittees tasked with overseeing emergency response, maintaining operational continuity and applying technical measures to limit rainwater accumulation, particularly on major roads and streets. He said the committee supervises all field operations and ensures coordination between government entities throughout the emirate. Under the current operational plan, teams of engineers, supervisors, technicians and support staff have been deployed across Sharjah. The municipality’s fleet includes 183 tankers dedicated to removing rainwater, 186 high-capacity mobile pumps used to channel water into drainage networks, and six rapid-response vehicles, alongside heavy and light machinery. To support traffic flow during severe weather, 20 vehicle recovery units have also been prepared to assist motorists whose vehicles become stalled or waterlogged. As part of its summer readiness programme, the municipality completed maintenance works on 67 rainwater retention ponds in Sharjah. It also added 30 new high-capacity pumps, which have been distributed across key locations. A large-scale cleaning campaign was carried out covering 38,600 rainwater drainage inlets across the city.
