The North Cairo Criminal Court sentenced singer Saad El Soghayar to three years in prison on November 25th on charges of drug possession.
During the trial, the judge reviewed a medical report from the Forensic Medicine Authority, which confirmed that El Soghayar suffers from a torn cruciate ligament requiring him to use Tramadol. Based on this, his lawyer, Tarek Jameel Saeed, argued for his client's acquittal on the charge of drug consumption.
However, the judge noted that El Soghayar also faced a separate charge of drug possession. In response, the lawyer presented video evidence he claimed demonstrated his client's innocence, arguing that the confiscated substances had been given to El Soghayar as "a gift."
