Three Egyptians Cities Added to UNESCO’s Network of Learning Cities

Alexandria, Sharqia and the city of Zefta in Gharbia have been welcomed into the prestigious UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities for the year 2023, according to an announcement made by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (GNLC).

The aim of joining the UNESCO Network of Learning Cities is to establish an inclusive educational society where every individual becomes a source of knowledge and learning. These cities were selected by an independent international jury for their outstanding contributions in implementing lifelong learning policies and strategies.

To be part of the Learning Cities Network, cities must adhere to specific criteria, including creating a safe and healthy environment, promoting lifelong learning through activities, fostering policy dialogue and cooperation among member cities, and contributing to capacity building and the development of effective learning strategies.

In total, Egypt now boasts seven cities within the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, namely Giza, Aswan, Damietta, Fayoum, Sharkia, Zefta, and Alexandria.
