Three Saudi Cities Added to UNESCO Learning Cities List
The Kingdom has five cities in the UNESCO Learning Cities Network, which now includes the city of Madinah.
Three more Saudi cities have been added to the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, namely Madinah, King Abdullah Economic City and Al Ahsa.
The network seeks to promote inclusive learning within families and communities on all levels of education, encouraging discussions on education policies and institutions, and enhancing local and international partnerships between global centres of knowledge.
Established in 2012, the list now includes a total of five Saudi cities, with Jubail Industrial City and Yanbu Industrial city being added in 2020 and 2022 respectively, all of which are designated as central areas for the facilitation of work-related learning. UNESCO aims to foster a culture of lifelong global learning through enhancement of education and exchange between Learning Cities both domestically and internationally.
