UAE’s AMEA Power to Build Africa’s Largest Solar & Battery Project in
The project pairs a 1000 megawatt solar plant with a 600 megawatt hour battery in Aswan, targeted to begin operations in June 2026.
AMEA Power, a leading independent renewable energy developer in the UAE, is set to construct Africa’s largest single-site solar and battery storage facility in Egypt's Aswan. The venture is a partnership with Japan’s Kyuden International Corporation, a global energy company investing in its first project in Egypt. Set to begin operations in June 2026, the facility will combine 1,000 MW of solar capacity with 600 MWh of battery storage, supplying electricity to over 500,000 households and cutting 1.6 million tonnes of CO₂ annually. The development will also generate over 4,000 jobs, with 95% going to Egyptians, while receiving USD 570 million in senior debt from the International Finance Corporation, bringing the total investment to more than USD 700 million. AMEA Power already has a strong presence in Egypt’s renewable energy sector, including the 500 MW Abydos solar plant in Kom Ombo, the 500 MW Amunet wind farm in Ras Ghareb, and a 300 MWh battery storage system launched in 2025.
