UAE's First Robotic Mastectomy Was Done at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi
The robotic mastectomy is the first in the Cleveland Clinic global network.
The first robotic mastectomy in the MENA region was performed at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, as part of the M42 group. The procedure is also the first of its kind to be performed in the Cleveland Clinic global network.
A mastectomy, the procedure through which breast tissue is removed to treat breast cancer, traditionally requires large chest incisions, which take longer to heal and may lead to loss of sensation, and leave visible scarring. When roboticised, however, precise technology makes the procedure of tissue removal and reconstruction possible at the cost of only a small incision under the armpit, preserving nerves surrounding the breast.
