US-UAE Climate-Friendly Agriculture Partnership Grows to USD 29B
Launched in 2021, the programme brings together governments, private companies, and non-governmental organisations to address the climate impact of agriculture.
At the COP29 climate summit in Baku, the US and the UAE announced that their joint initiative, the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate), has secured USD 29.2 billion in funding. Launched in 2021, the program brings together governments, private companies, and non-governmental organisations to address the climate impact of agriculture and enhance its resilience in the face of global warming.
AIM for Climate, planned as a five-year initiative concluding in 2025, has already garnered significant global support. With nearly 130 projects and over 800 partners, the program focuses on supporting small farmers, reducing methane emissions, and driving research and technological advancements in agricultural practices.
Agriculture and food systems contribute approximately one-third of human-made greenhouse gas emissions, encompassing emissions from farming practices, land use, crop and livestock production, and energy consumption during processing and transportation. AIM for Climate aims to mitigate these impacts through innovative solutions.
Since its inception, the program has demonstrated substantial growth, with funding increasing from USD 8 billion at COP27 to USD 17 billion at COP28, culminating in the current total of USD 29.2 billion.
