USAID Pledges USD 129 Million to Support Egypt's Economic Reforms

During the US-Egypt Strategic Dialogue held in Cairo, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pledged USD 129 million to support Egypt’s economic reforms through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

These investments will not only support economic reforms but also aim to improve public health services, strengthen government institutions, and enhance public education, all in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Key initiatives include plans to equip nine additional STEM schools with advanced laboratory equipment, expand university career centres, and upgrade 80 technical education schools to better prepare young Egyptians for the job market. Additionally, three leading U.S. universities—the Illinois Institute of Technology, the University of Minnesota, and Drake University—will sign agreements with local partners to establish branches in Egypt.

USAID will continue its collaboration with Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to provide scholarships, offer teacher training, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and fund joint research projects on key issues such as water management and clean energy.

Since 1978, the U.S. has invested over USD 30 billion in economic development assistance in Egypt, in addition to significant military aid.
