Viral Egyptian Gyno Suspended for 6 Months for Public Order Violation

Dr. Wesam Shoeib, a gynaecologist from Kafr El Dawar, has been suspended for six months and faced a 50% salary reduction following her arrest in November 2024. 

The Public Prosecution in Beheira Governorate ordered her detention after a video she posted went viral, sparking outrage on social media platforms. In the video, Dr. Shoeib shared sensitive patient information, including cases involving premarital pregnancies, which raised serious concerns about patient confidentiality and medical ethics.

The disciplinary court upheld the suspension, following an investigation by the Administrative Prosecution. Dr. Shoeib’s video, which discussed personal cases of women seeking medical treatment, was deemed a violation of medical ethics and patient rights.

In her defence, Dr. Shoeib explained that she did not intend to incite controversy but aimed to highlight societal issues. She denied seeking fame or attention and claimed to be the target of a smear campaign. Her defence team, led by lawyer Dr. Osama El-Aryan, argued that she had been unfairly treated.

Dr. Shoeib faces charges of disturbing public order, misusing social media, and spreading false information that undermined family values. These charges stemmed from her video discussing premarital pregnancies and other sensitive topics, which were seen as harmful to public order and the integrity of the medical profession.

Earlier, the Kafr El Dawar Court granted Dr. Shoeib bail, set at 10,000 EGP.
