Russian Cultural Centre to Host Memorial for Filmmaker Mohamed Khan

The Russian Cultural Centre in Cairo will host a special event on July 26th to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the passing of acclaimed Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Khan.

Organised in partnership with the Hathor Association for Culture and Arts and The Film Society, the event is being held under the theme 'Mohamed Khan... 10 Years of Presence (2016–2026)'.

The programme will bring together a number of filmmakers and cinema figures, including cinematographer Said Shimi, Dr Mohsen Ahmed, Mahmoud Abdel Samie, screenwriter Wissam Soliman, film critic Mahmoud Abdel Shakour, director Nadine Khan, cinematographer Kamal Abdel Aziz, and Sherif Gad, Director of Cultural Activity at the Russian Cultural Centre. The discussion will be moderated by director Ahmed Rashwan.

Actors who worked with Mohamed Khan throughout his career will also take part, sharing reflections on their experiences working with the late director. The event will feature archival video material documenting Khan's films and cinematic approach, alongside recorded and live tributes from friends, colleagues and former students.

The evening will conclude with a screening of 'Al-Batteekha', Mohamed Khan's first professional short film. The nine-minute production was photographed by Said Shimi and edited by the late Ahmed Metwally.
