This Lebanese Ceramics Studio Values Community Above Product

Fabrica Design Platform, a ceramics company based in Beirut, isn’t only about experiencing and buying their product, it’s about giving back to their community. Established in Beirut by Nour Zoghby, it operates as both a studio and a research platform, using ceramics as a meeting point for experimentation, research and collective learning.

The company believes experimentation is the most powerful form of learning, driven by a sustained curiosity around material cycles. Installations such as 'Clay Unbound', which they presented at We Design Beirut 2025, turn waste into possibility, treating failure as an opportunity for regeneration rather than an endpoint. Through the clay-making process - the moulding, testing, failing, firing, and glazing - they offer a broader metaphor for evolution, resilience, and social change.

In that sense, sustainability is not merely for aesthetics but a conscious practice. Materials are constantly reused, reworked and reimagined. For example, unclaimed ceramics are crushed and given new life through testing or architectural interventions, clay scraps are reclaimed, and glazes are developed locally through slow experimentation. This cyclical approach reflects a deep respect for the material, treating it with care and intention.

Beyond the studio’s creative mission, Fabrica is deeply embedded in the local community. It acts as a cultural connector, encouraging Lebanese artists and fostering exchange. Through workshops, masterclasses and learning programs, the platform encourages horizontal learning, bringing together artists, designers and students of various ages, to collaborate in the same space. The programs are designed as empowering spaces with a strong focus on supporting women and youth.

Research-led projects sit at the core of Fabrica’s practice, aiming to show and expand the culture of how creative industries can act as hubs for learning, inclusion and sustainability in Lebanon.
