Abdelrahman Sameh Wins Egypt’s First Gold at Taranto 2026

Abdelrahman Sameh has won Egypt’s first gold medal at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, taking first place in the men’s 50m butterfly.

Sameh finished in 23.18 seconds, a time that also set a new Mediterranean Games record.

Egypt added a second medal in the women’s 50m butterfly, where Farida Osman finished third in 26.32 seconds to take bronze.

The two results gave Egypt an early boost in the swimming programme, with Sameh delivering the country’s first gold of the Games and Osman adding another podium finish in the same event.
