Hong Kong Turns Its Metro Commute Into an Ancient Egyptian Experience
The city-wide activation arrives during the closing stretch of Ancient Egypt Unveiled at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation has partnered with the Hong Kong Palace Museum to transform the city’s metro network into an Ancient Egypt-inspired cultural trail spanning nine stations and shopping malls.
Led by the metro operator’s mascot T Chai dressed as a pharaoh alongside a cartoonish Pharaoh Cat, the activation brings ancient Egyptian imagery into the middle of commuters’ everyday journeys.
Drawing from the Nile’s history as a route of movement and exchange, the experience transforms Hong Kong Station with pyramid installations, themed train interiors and digital activations that convert visitors’ names into hieroglyphics, before continuing across stops including Central, Admiralty and West Kowloon.
The city-wide activation arrives during the closing stretch of Ancient Egypt Unveiled at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, created in collaboration with Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities and currently the largest exhibition of Egyptian artefacts ever staged in Hong Kong.
