New Digital Map Will Help Regulate Egypt's Roadside Billboards
The new digital register will use geographic data to track and regulate roadside advertising nationwide.
The National Authority for Regulating Advertisements on Public Roads has begun developing the country’s first integrated geographic database of roadside advertisements, creating a unified digital register covering all governorates.
The authority is coordinating with governorates, new city agencies and other relevant bodies to inventory existing advertisements before adding them to the central database. The system is intended to provide an accurate spatial record of advertising units, improve monitoring and planning, and support faster decisions based on documented and regularly updated information.
Geographic information systems will be used to record the precise coordinates of each advertisement and connect them with technical and regulatory details, including the responsible authority, location, type, dimensions, condition, licensee and licence duration.
The authority said the register will strengthen transparency and oversight while helping reduce violations and improve the use of roadside advertising space. The project is being implemented under Law No. 208 of 2020 and its executive regulations as part of wider efforts to expand data-driven public administration.
