UAE Pledges USD 5 Million to FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund

The United Arab Emirates has pledged USD 5 million to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, supporting efforts to expand access to quality education for children and young people around the world.

The contribution was announced ahead of the FIFA World Cup final and will help fund initiatives that equip children and young people with the knowledge and skills they need, while supporting international collaboration to address barriers to education.

The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund is a joint initiative between FIFA, football's international governing body, and Global Citizen, an international advocacy organisation focused on ending extreme poverty. The fund raises resources to improve access to quality education, particularly for vulnerable and underserved children, through grants and partnerships with organisations delivering programmes on the ground.

Global Citizen works with governments, businesses, philanthropies, artists and civil society on issues including education, healthcare, climate action, food security and gender equality. The organisation is also known for hosting large-scale campaigns and events, including the Global Citizen Festival, to generate funding and policy commitments in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

A half-time show during the World Cup final, curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay, is set to feature performances by Shakira, Madonna, Justin Bieber and BTS to help raise additional funds for the initiative.
