Cairo-Based Shunus Drops Groovy Acid House EP 'Who's Runnin' This?’
The two-track EP is filled with wonky synthesisers and groove-infused sub bass that echoes the spirit of raves in London’s underground club Shoom.
Cairo-based British DJ, producer and live performer Shunus, who has garnered a cult following with his ethereal organic house productions, returns with a groovy acid house EP ‘Who’s Runnin’ This?’.
Across the two tracks of the EP, Shunus manipulates organic elements and influences from minimal house to craft a mind-bending pulsating journey that echoes the early rave days of South London’s famed underground club Shoom. As a live act, Shunus crafts the record with a focused and specific approach charged with relentless energetic flows.
The title track is colourful with a funky edge, blending intricately arranged percussion hits and groove-infused sub-bass with wonky synthesisers, resulting in euphoria-inducing melodies.
At some point, mid the second track, ‘Freek On’, the repetition of distorted 909 bass drums builds up into hard-hitting momentum before dissolving into a cacophony of constant squelching sounds and highly danceable booming basslines.
