Disco Samir Releases Dark Ambient EP ‘Khenchara’

Berlin-based Lebanese producer Disco Samir has released his second EP, ‘Khenchara’, an instrumental dark ambient four-track record that unfolds as one elongated piece, exploring heavy themes of melancholy and loneliness.

Far from an easy listen, the EP is packed with haunting sounds and evocative passages. Disco Samir experiments with stretched-out vocals, layering them together and enhancing them with dub-like effects. While the overarching feel of the EP is ominous, moments of pure tranquility emerge, contrasting the heavy themes with soothing ambient soundscapes - only to be consistently interrupted and disrupted by synthetic glitch sounds.

“I worked on most of these songs around two years ago, during a time of extreme melancholy and loneliness. I spent so much time with my thoughts and memories, feeling that they were breaking down yet somehow violently present - intruding on my life and contrasting sharply with the alienation I was experiencing. The music similarly intrudes and retracts, forms and breaks apart,” Samir tells SceneNoise.
