XP News: BMI To Develop Performing Rights Infrastructure in UAE

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), a US-based global performance rights organisation, is teaming up with Emirati music rights management company Music Nation to develop a world-class performing rights infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates.

The endeavour is part of a larger initiative by Music Nation to elevate the music industry and create a thriving ecosystem within the UAE. With BMI’s history of supporting many creatives and enabling them to build rewarding careers in music, this collaboration will help develop, educate and nurture the region’s next generation of songwriters and composers.

While traditionally copyrights are not easily enforced and monetised in the region, this state-of-art music licensing and royalty infrastructure will protect the rights of local and international artists and compensate them for their public performances while securing new revenue streams for music makers.

The companies will begin building and implementing the new infrastructure, initiating the process of licensing in the UAE with two offices located in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Songwriters and composers interested in learning more about this initiative can email music@wearemusicnation.com.
