Buddha Statue Uncovered Amidst Ruins of Egyptian Port City

A Buddha statue has been unearthed in Berenice, an ancient Egyptian port city near the Red Sea, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

American and Polish archaeologists discovered the 71-centimetre statuette, which dates back to the Roman era. The statue depicts a robed Buddha missing his limbs on the right side with a halo surrounding his head, representing the sun’s rays. This discovery suggests that there may have been important trade links between the Roman Empire and India.
