NTRA Reduces Minimum Internet Package Prices
Lower-cost entry packages have been introduced alongside price adjustments on selected telecom services.
New fixed internet and mobile packages have been introduced in Egypt alongside approved price adjustments on selected telecom services.
The measures were directed by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority and include a new home internet package priced at EGP 150, compared to the previous lowest package at EGP 210. A new mobile package has also been set at EGP 5, down from around EGP 13 for existing entry-level offers.
Under the updated framework, all government and education websites will remain accessible free of charge on both fixed and mobile networks, even after data bundles are fully used.
The changes form part of a broader plan to adjust telecom service prices by between 9% and 15% on some packages, including taxes.
Voice call rates for fixed lines and mobile services will remain unchanged, as will the prices of recharge cards and fees for electronic wallets. Officials said the adjustments are intended to support the sustainability of telecom services and improve network quality.
Fixed internet usage has increased by 36% over the past year, placing additional pressure on infrastructure and driving the need for further investment.
The authority cited a range of cost pressures affecting the sector, including exchange rate fluctuations, higher electricity tariffs, increased fuel costs, and rising expenses linked to labour, network construction, and equipment.
Additional factors include higher international shipping costs, supply chain disruptions, and increased prices for electronic components used in telecom infrastructure.
