Artist Sara Alabdali’s ‘Growing Vines of Sodom’ Show Extended to May

Jeddah’s Hafez Gallery is extending Sara Alabdali’s solo exhibition “Growing Vines of Sodom” until May 16th, 2024.

Sara Alabdali is a contemporary Saudi Arabian artist, and is considered to be one of the country’s first street artists. Her art combines graphic design with elements from popular Saudi and Arab culture. She has previously participated in international exhibitions such as RHIZOMA in the 55th Venice Biennale (2013) and #COMETOGETHER by Edge of Arabia East London (2012), and exhibited in a number of local and international galleries and museums such as the Saatchi Gallery and the British Museum.

This is Alabdali’s second solo show, which she uses to delve into the intricate relationship between life and death, using artistic juxtaposition as a medium to explore this interplay. The collection showcases a series of paintings and multidisciplinary artworks that prompt viewers to reflect on the delicate balance between existence and departure. She uses plants as a symbol of renewal to explore her personal experiences of loss.

The exhibition has been open since February 21st 2024, and was originally meant to run until April 5th.
