From September 20th to October 31st, over 100 original artworks by the American artistic legend Andy Warhol will be showcased at the highly anticipated exhibition ‘The Glam Factory’ at The Foundry in Downtown Dubai. This exhibition, the first of its kind dedicated to Warhol in the Emirates, follows the King of Pop Art’s first exhibition in Saudi Arabia’s AlUla in 2023.
The exhibition will feature a series of rooms adorned with electrifying colours and retro touches, tracing Warhol’s rise from a humble illustrator to an era-defining artist who revolutionised our conception of art. Highlights include Warhol’s iconic Marilyn Monroe series—ten silk-screened prints of the Hollywood icon in vibrant colours produced in 1967—and the Campbell's Soup Can, first depicted by Warhol in 1961, which in its celebration of a mundane everyday object shocked the art world and marked the advent of Warhol’s signature Pop style.Alongside many other iconic works, so many of which explore Warhol's fascination with celebrity culture, the exhibition will showcase objects from Warhol’s personal collection, including an autographed guitar from Michael Jackson, Muhammad Ali’s heavyweight championship belt, and a series of intimate Polaroids of famous visitors to Warhol’s studio, offering a glimpse into Warhol’s glittering inner circle.“‘The Glam Factory’ is not just an exhibition,” Ashur tells #SceneNowUAE. “It’s an immersive journey into the mind of a genius who forever changed the landscape of contemporary art.”To fully immerse visitors in Warhol’s world, ‘The Glam Factory’ will feature recreations of The Factory—Warhol’s legendary Manhattan studio with its signature silvery aluminium walls, which became the beating heart of New York’s 1960s counterculture—and Studio 54, the 1980s disco club synonymous with decadence, where Warhol mingled with aristocrats, pop stars, punks, and bankers.
