Zawya Cinema has been a leading force in Egypt’s cultural scene since it was founded in 2014, creating a space for independent filmmakers and cinema-goers seeking alternative art forms. Soon, they’re taking their dedicated audience of movie lovers into Khairy Beshara’s cinematic universe through their curated programme, ‘Khairy Beshara Retrospective’.
An award-winning filmmaker, Khairy Beshara was born in Tanta and graduated from the High Cinema Institute in Egypt, and has since then directed multiple series, short films, and twelve feature films. Beshara was one of the filmmakers who led Egypt’s new wave of social realism films in the 1980s. His iconic films include ‘Kaborya’ starring Ahmed Zaki, and ‘Ice Cream F Gleem’ starring Amr Diab.
Zawya Cinema will be screening three of his feature films that were restored by the Red Sea Film Festival and three documentary films restored by Egypt’s National Cinema Institute in order to revisit his diverse filmography from a new lens. They will announce the ‘Khairy Beshara Retrospective’ schedule soon.
