Aramco Plans to Establish Natural Reserve in Rub’ al Khali Desert
The Saudi oil company aims to revive the natural vegetation and wildlife of the desert.
Saudi oil company Aramco aims to establish a giant nature reserve in Rub’ al Khali Desert, aka the Empty Quarter, located in the far southeast of Saudi Arabia. This initiative will be led by Aramco’s Environmental Department.
The reserve, spanning 600 square kilometres, will be named the ‘Biodiversity Area’. Aramco plans to restore the desert’s vegetation and wildlife populations to their former states by replanting previously existing tree species, and reintroducing deer and Arabian oryx to the area.
To support this effort, Aramco conducted a comprehensive study on the region's natural plants and wildlife.
