Cairo’s New Metro Line 6 Will Be Africa’s First Driverless Metro

Egypt’s urban infrastructure is about to get a revamp with the first driverless metro in Africa. Cairo’s new Metro Line 6 is set to be 35 kilometres long with 26 stations, and will be constructed and maintained by the French rolling stock manufacturer Alstom after signing off on a new framework with Egypt’s National Authority of Tunnels. 

Cairo Metro Line 6 will accommodate up to 1.6 million passengers, reducing congestion from Metro Line 1 and allowing more residents to easily navigate the capital. 12 of the 26 stations will be underground, and are set to run through Subra El Kheima, New Maadi and Ain El Sokhna road.
