'Circle Dubai' Initiative Launched to Slash Daily Waste Per Person
Smart bins and institutional containers will support source segregation alongside partnerships across nine sectors with backing from Dubai Holding and Emaar.
The Circle Dubai, an initiative by the Dubai Municipality, introduces a comprehensive waste-reduction framework designed to lower average daily waste generation from around 2.2 kg to 1.76 kg per person. The plan supports the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which seeks to divert 100% of solid waste away from landfills.
The framework outlines measures across nine key sectors—including residential, commercial, and education—to promote recycling, reuse, and more efficient consumption. Smart recycling bins, digital education platforms, and a “DM Ambassador” awareness programme are among the tools being used to encourage behavioural change at the community level.
By 2041, the programme aims to establish a fully circular model in which resources are reused, recovered, and repurposed, aligning with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) to create a more sustainable and efficient urban environment.
