Additionally, female workers now have the power to terminate their contract due to marriage, pregnancy or childbirth.
A string of new labor laws approved by the Egyptian Senate have set new guidelines and policies to empower women, and encourage their participation in the workforce. Among them is a new rule for businesses that employ 100 female workers or more, which must now establish a nursery or entrust a nursery with the care of the workers’ children.
Additionally, female workers now have the power to terminate their contract due to marriage, pregnancy or childbirth. In the instance of marriage, a written letter requesting termination must be submitted three months prior. For pregnancy and childbirth, women must provide medical records as proof.
Companies who have at least one female employee are obligated to display a copy of the women’s employment guidelines, in order to raise awareness of women’s rights within the workplace.
