Egypt’s State Council Appoints 48 Fresh Graduate Women Judges
Male law graduates have long been appointed to the State Council after graduation, while women were previously excluded.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has approved new judicial appointments to the State Council, which for the first time include 48 fresh graduate women judges. The appointments are part of the 2021 cohort of 207 assistant delegates.
The move is significant as male law graduates have long been appointed to the State Council directly after graduation, while women were previously excluded from this entry-level pathway. Until now, female judges could only join the State Council later in their careers, often after serving in other judicial or legal bodies.
The newly appointed women successfully passed all required assessments and reviews set by the State Council’s Supreme Committee, meeting the same legal and constitutional standards applied to their male counterparts.
The judges will soon be sworn in before the President of the State Council and take up posts across its divisions.
