Egyptian Fencer Mohamed Hamza Wins Fencing World Cup in Mexico

Egyptian fencer Mohamed Hamza makes history as the first African and Arab athlete to score a gold medal at the Coupe du Monde, otherwise known as the Fencing World Cup, which took place in Acapulco, Mexico this year. The Egyptian champion clashed swords against Hong Kong’s Ka Long Cheung in a dramatic final, before coming out victorious with a total of 32 points throughout the competition.

At 22 years old, Hamza is ranked 11th worldwide, having previously competed with the Egyptian men's foil team at the 2016 Rio Olympics, as well as the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
