Egyptian Filmmaker Omar El Zohairy Pays Tribute to Salah El Sharnouby
Ahead of Riyadh Season Concert, El Zohairy creates a beautiful homage honouring the prestigious Egyptian composer.
Award-winning Egyptian filmmaker Omar El Zohairy has paid tribute to the great composer Salah El Sharnouby ahead of the Riyadh Season Concert with a touching montage produced by Riyadh Season.
The video cuts between scenes of varied, innocuous, day-to-day moments in people’s lives, set to the tune of their singing and humming El Sharnouby’s legendary work, ‘Batwanes Beek’. The track, created for Egyptian singer Warda Al-Jazairia, is perhaps El Sharnouby’s most famous composition, amongst other well-known collaborations with the likes of George Wassouf, Elissa and Latifa, to name a few.
The montage carries even more weight thanks to Omar El Zohairy’s past work, particularly his multi award-winning 2021 film ‘Feathers’ which won the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, making him the first Egyptian to receive this accolade.
The Riyadh Season Concert takes place January 18th. Led by conductor Tamer Faizy, the concert will feature many of El Sharnouby’s most famous compositions, supported by artists such as Nancy Ajram, Assala and Ragheb Alama.
