First Digital Database for Refugees & Asylum Seekers Launches in Egypt
Built by the platform’s legal and technical team, it offers interactive search and comparative analysis, linking national laws to international standards.
The Refugee Platform in Egypt has launched the Legal Database on Migration and Asylum, an interactive digital resource that archives and organises legislation and public policies on migration, asylum and refugee rights in Egypt and Mediterranean countries. Designed as a comprehensive reference, the database is intended to support human rights, research and media work by improving access to official information from original sources.
According to the platform, the first edition includes more than 61 pieces of legislation and official documents. Coverage spans constitutional texts and national laws, ministerial and regulatory decisions, judicial rulings, executive orders, government strategies and national policies. It also aggregates international and regional agreements, including the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol, alongside United Nations reports and recommendations, and research, commentary and analytical papers published by the Refugee Platform in Egypt.
The database features an interactive search and retrieval interface that directs users to original texts. It enables comparative analysis between domestic and international legislation and between policies in Egypt and Mediterranean countries, supports the construction of legal arguments grounded in documented official texts, and offers a methodological framework for documenting violations related to the legal protection of asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. The tool also links national laws and policies to international standards, including conventions, protocols and United Nations recommendations, and provides sources ready for use and citation.
The Refugee Platform in Egypt states that content will be expanded and updated periodically as new legislative developments, official documents and relevant United Nations recommendations are released.
