Free Train Trip Will Facilitate Voluntary Return of Sudanese Refugees
A special train will depart Cairo on July 23 to transport Sudanese citizens voluntarily returning to Sudan, with full medical and logistical support onboard.

Egypt’s National Railways Authority will operate a free train service to facilitate the voluntary return of Sudanese nationals from Cairo on Monday, July 23rd.
The designated third‑class air‑conditioned train (Train No. 1940) will depart Cairo at 11 AM and arrive in Aswan at 11 PM the same day. From Aswan, passengers will continue by road via High Dam Port to the Arqeen border crossing into Sudan.
The service is coordinated by the Egyptian Ministries of Transport and Foreign Affairs, alongside Sudanese authorities. Medical and logistical support be provided on board, and the journey will be free of charge. This initiative is part of broader repatriation efforts amidst the conflict in Sudan, with the International Organization for Migration reporting increased voluntary returns since January 2025 due to relative security improvements in Khartoum.
Egypt, which hosts an estimated 5.5 million Sudanese nationals, is facilitating these returns as part of its close cooperation with Sudan.
