GCAA Approves First Commercial Vertiport for Air Taxis

The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has granted technical design approval for the country's first commercial vertiport, the Dubai International Vertiport (DXV). The DXV will be situated near Dubai International Airport (DXB).

Developed by Skyports Infrastructure in collaboration with Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Joby Aviation, the DXV is part of a larger network designed to facilitate commercial air taxi operations. The approval follows the establishment of the UAE’s Vertiport Regulations, which outline strict compliance requirements for physical infrastructure, airspace integration, and safety protocols, as specified in CAR-HVD Part III.

Skyports Infrastructure demonstrated its readiness to meet these standards by presenting a robust rescue and firefighting strategy, addressing both battery and traditional fuel fire scenarios.

Commercial operations at the DXV vertiport are set to commence in 2026, with the facility forming a crucial component of Dubai’s initial air taxi network. Skyports is concurrently developing three additional vertiport sites across the city.
