Health Ministry Launches App to Measure Vital Signs Using Phone Camera

The Ministry of Health and Community Protection has introduced the ‘Biosigns’ project, an artificial intelligence-powered tool that transforms smartphones into medical devices capable of measuring vital signs.

The initiative aims to enhance preventive healthcare by leveraging AI to analyse facial images through mobile phone cameras. The technology detects subtle changes in skin colour and blood movement, which are then processed by advanced mathematical models to generate real-time readings of cholesterol, hemoglobin, blood sugar, heart rate and blood pressure.

The system will be made available through a smart application and an electronic platform, integrating seamlessly with approved health applications and linking to the unified health record. Compared to traditional medical devices, this innovation offers immediate, globally accredited results, reducing the need for laboratory visits and operational costs while improving user accessibility. The initiative is expected to support digital health transformation by strengthening data accuracy, enhancing cybersecurity measures, and integrating with existing healthcare systems.

In parallel, the ministry is also introducing a smart audit project for engineering plans in health facilities, utilising AI to assess compliance with international standards. The system evaluates medical centres and private clinics, streamlining engineering reviews and supporting the Zero Bureaucracy initiative with an accuracy rate of up to 70%.

The AI-driven audit process is designed to improve the efficiency of regulatory reviews, reducing costs while enhancing the competitiveness of the health sector. The project will be implemented in three phases: system development, testing and training over a six-month period, and full-scale deployment.
