House of Islamic Arts Displays 1,000 Historic Islamic Artefacts

The House of Islamic Arts, Saudi Arabia’s first museum dedicated exclusively to Islamic art, has opened at Jeddah Park, showcasing over 1,000 rare artefacts that span centuries of Islamic civilisation.

The museum is organised into six galleries, each focusing on a specific domain of Islamic cultural heritage. The first gallery explores ceramics and glassmaking from the 1st to 10th century AH. The second features Islamic metalworks from the 1st to 13th century AH, including decorated vessels and tools.

The third gallery contains 500 coins in circulation from the Prophet’s era through the modern day, while the fourth traces the impact of Islamic aesthetics on other civilisations from the 2nd to 13th century AH.

The fifth gallery houses rare Qur’anic manuscripts, Arabic calligraphy, and wooden Qur’an memorisation tablets from the 2nd to 14th century AH. The final gallery highlights Islamic textiles, including Kaaba coverings and a Shammi Gate curtain from the Ottoman era.

The museum also features a dedicated library with Arabic and English volumes on Islamic history, art, and literature.
