The governments of Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire that would last for at least four days. According to Qatar, which served as mediator alongside Egypt, the ceasefire will allow for the release of 50 hostages captured by Hamas in October, as well as the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
The ceasefire will begin within the next 24 hours and allow for the greater transfer of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
The office of the Israeli prime minister claimed that the release of an additional 10 hostages would result in an additional day in the pause. The hostages are not expected to be released before Thursday.
