‘No Other Land' Director Abducted Following Attack by Israeli Settlers

Palestinian director of Oscar-winning film ‘No Other Land’ Hamdan Ballal was lynched by Israeli settlers in his home village of Susya in the occupied West Bank earlier this evening, sustaining head and stomach injuries.

Palestinian director, journalist and lawyer Basel Adra, who also co-directed ‘No Other Land’, witnessed the incident, and reported that a group of settlers had approached Belal’s home, accompanied by soldiers who fired shots into the air.

Adra further described how Belal’s wife was also present as an eyewitness, seeing her husband being attacked outside their home while he screamed, “I’m dying.” According to Adra, this was not the first attack by this group of settlers on the village of Susya, who reportedly carried out the attack shortly after Palestinians broke their Ramadan fast.

According to Yuval Ibrahim, the Israeli journalist who worked with Ballal on ‘No Other Land’, Israeli soldiers later raided the ambulance and abducted Hamdan. No signs of his whereabouts have since been reported.

Earlier that day, Israeli occupation forces in Gaza killed Palestinian Al-Jazeera journalist Hossam Shabat at 23 years old, as well as Palestine Today TV journalist Mohammed Mansour.
