Over 1 Million TikTok Videos Removed in UAE
From hate speech to harmful acts, the videos were removed as part of a wider MENA content cleanup that includes Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon and Morocco.
As part of a broader push to improve platform safety across MENA, TikTok has taken down more than 1 million videos in the UAE between January and March 2025, according to its latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.
In the UAE, 98.2% of flagged videos were detected proactively, with over 94% removed within 24 hours. The most common violations included hate speech, harassment, misinformation, and dangerous acts—flagged through a mix of AI tools, user reports, and human moderators.
Regionally, Egypt saw 2.9 million videos taken down with a 99.6% proactive detection rate, while Iraq recorded over 10 million removals. Lebanon and Morocco followed with 1.3 million and 1 million videos removed, respectively, both surpassing 98% in automated detection efficiency.
While short videos make up the bulk of TikTok content, the company is increasingly focusing on its LIVE features. Globally, over 850,000 LIVE hosts were banned and 1.5 million livestreams removed for violating policies—a trend reflected in stricter scrutiny across the region.
The report also highlighted that nearly half a million videos were reinstated globally after user appeals, raising questions about the balance between automated enforcement and fair review.
The UAE is one of TikTok’s most active markets in the Middle East, especially among younger users, prompting growing pressure on platforms to curb harmful or misleading content while preserving space for expression.
