Power Cuts Extended to Three Hours Until Saturday Night

Ministries of Petroleum and Electricity have issued a joint statement announcing an extension to power cuts across Egypt to three hours daily, until the end of the week.

In the statement, the ministries explained that the decision was made to preserve natural gas reserves used to power the country’s electricity grid.

Whilst plans to extend ‘load shedding’ hours were already in the works, the recent and continuing heatwave brought ahead the schedule for the extension, as domestic power consumption surges.
