Saudi Arabia Joins UNESCO Network of AI Supervisory Authorities

Saudi Arabia has joined the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Global Network of AI Supervisory Authorities in Paris. The Kingdom was represented by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, which oversees national work in data and artificial intelligence.

The accession will enable Saudi Arabia to enhance its national capabilities in the supervision of artificial intelligence by benefiting from international expertise and exchanging best practices with peer authorities. Participation in the network provides a formal channel for cooperation with public bodies responsible for oversight of artificial intelligence systems, alongside knowledge sharing on approaches to regulatory supervision.

UNESCO describes the Global Network of AI Supervisory Authorities as a platform that connects public supervisory bodies worldwide to build institutional capacity, strengthen international cooperation, and promote oversight of artificial intelligence. The network focuses on supporting competent authorities as they develop and coordinate oversight practices for artificial intelligence across jurisdictions.
