Saudi Arabia & United States Sign Civil Nuclear Cooperation Deal

Saudi Arabia and the United States signed a joint declaration on civil nuclear energy that establishes a legal foundation for a decades-long, multi-billion-dollar partnership.

The declaration states that all cooperation will be conducted in line with strong nonproliferation standards and confirms that the United States and American companies will be the Kingdom’s partners of choice for civil nuclear cooperation.

“Today was historic as the US and Saudi Arabia came together on a civil nuclear cooperation deal," US Energy Secretary Christopher Wright wrote on X. "Together, with bilateral safeguard agreements, we want to grow our partnership, bring American nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia and keep a firm commitment to nonproliferation.”

The signing coincided with broader engagements in Washington between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President Donald Trump. The White House said both sides signed a Strategic Defense Agreement and that the United States would designate Saudi Arabia a major non-NATO ally. It added that President Trump had approved future deliveries of F-35 fighter jets, while the Kingdom agreed to purchase 300 American tanks.

During an Oval Office meeting, the Crown Prince said Saudi Arabia would increase investments in the United States to USD 1 trillion.
