Saudi Arabia’s First Hydrogen-Powered Taxi Begins Trials in Jeddah
The move is part of Saudi Arabia's goal of achieving 45% zero-emission vehicles by 2030.
Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority has launched a week-long trial of hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai taxis in Jeddah, marking a significant step towards zero-emission public transport. The initiative evaluates hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles as part of the kingdom's sustainability efforts.
In collaboration with Abdullah Hashim Industrial Gases & Equipment, Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, and Toyota Motor Corporation, the trial aims to assess performance, fuel efficiency, and environmental impact.
The Toyota Mirai, which emits only water vapour, will provide crucial data to support future hydrogen integration into the public transport system, furthering Saudi Arabia's goal of achieving 45% zero-emission vehicles by 2030.
