Shahd Saeed Officially Disqualified by Egyptian Olympic Committee
Saeed had already withdrawn from the competition and announced her retirement before the Committee’s statement was released.
The Board of Directors of the Egyptian Olympic Committee has issued an official statement disqualifying cyclist Sahd Saeed from participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics, following controversy surrounding a collision between Saeed and fellow professional cyclist Jana Aliwa at Egypt’s Women’s Cycling Championship. The ban also extends to her participation in any domestic competition until April 26th, 2025.
In the statement, the committee stated that the decision was taken “following proof that Saeed threw Aliwa off her bike during the Under 23 Singles Race, contrary to the regulations of the Egyptian and International Cycling Federations, and the code of conduct, ethics and values issued by the Egyptian Olympic Committee. She violated the controls, regulations, customs, values and ethics put in place.”
In addition to the professional suspension, Saeed must also pay a fine of 100 Swiss francs, the maximum fine stipulated by the ICF Disciplinary Regulation.
