Sondos Shabayek’s Sousou’s TikTok Selected for Clermont-Ferrand
A dark comedy short where a TikTok livestream selling bridal products is disrupted, revealing what’s happening off-camera.
Egyptian filmmaker Sondos Shabayek is heading to France this winter, with her latest short film Sousou’s TikTok set to premiere at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in January 2026.
The Egyptian–German production follows a housewife who goes live on TikTok to discreetly sell hyper-feminine bridal products—creams, lingerie, lip plumpers. When her husband unexpectedly enters the room mid-stream, the tone shifts. What begins as a bright, carefully managed sales pitch gradually reveals deeper tensions, as the livestream becomes a space where performance and private reality collide.
Starring Roba Riad and Omar Abu Gabal, Sousou’s TikTok explores how digital platforms blur the line between visibility and control, while also shedding light on domestic violence. Clermont-Ferrand, one of the world’s most established short film festivals, will screen the film as part of its 2026 programme.
