Tahya Misr Fund Will Help Build 100 Schools & 17 Universities in Egypt

Tahya Misr Fund, a national fund created to achieve sustainable economic growth and alleviate poverty in Egypt, will cover half the cost of establishing 17 new technical universities across the country - estimated at EGP 500 million to EGP 600 million - while the government will match this contribution. The fund will also donate a significant contribution towards the construction of 100 schools with 3,000 rooms in 2024, which will cost EGP 15 billion in total.

Additionally, the fund will donate USD 50 million to support innovative and creative university students, complemented by an additional USD 50 million allocation from the government. This initiative aims to foster a supportive environment for students to showcase their talents and contribute to national development.

The introduction of these 17 new technical universities will supplement Egypt's existing 10 institutions of similar nature. According to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the state plans to have at least one technical university in each of the country's 27 governorates.

Over the past decade, Egypt has made progress in expanding its higher education sector. The number of public, private, and national universities has nearly doubled to a total of 96 in 2023, compared to 50 in 2014. The establishment of these new universities, excluding operating costs, has amounted to approximately EGP 180 billion.
