Telecom Egypt Forms Partnership With Huawei to Deploy 5G Network

State-owned communications company Telecom Egypt has joined forces with multinational Chinese technology corporation Huawei to deploy and develop a 5G network in Egypt.

Promising unparalleled internet speeds and expanded bandwidth, Huawei has been at the forefront of global 5G roll-out. With most phones made in the last two years already equipped with 5G-ready antennae, all that remains is for the network to be upgraded. The announcement of this partnership comes after Telecom Egypt secured a 5G service license from Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) in January 2024.

In terms of regional 5G roll-out, GCC countries are significantly ahead of the rest of the MENA region, with the UAE being the first to introduce the next generation network. Gulf countries are even slated to be ahead of the global average of 5G adoption by 2025. With Egypt’s 5G network just around the corner, it would become the first country in North Africa, and the first Arab country outside the Gulf, to offer the super-fast connection.
