Third Unit at Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant Gets Green Light

Egyptian authorities have given the green light for the establishment of a third unit for the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. The Egyptian Nuclear & Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) has been working closely with representatives from the Nuclear Power Plants Authority‎ to evaluate the first two units and plan for the establishment of the third.

The Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant is Egypt's first-ever nuclear power plant and is designed to generate nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in collaboration with Rosatom. It’s situated 135 km southwest of Alexandria and 320 km northwest of Cairo. The first nuclear reactor is expected to go into operation in 2028.

The ENRRA will closely monitor the implementation of the third unit of the Dabaa nuclear power plant, in order to ensure that it will not pose any threats to humans, the environment, or property.

Egypt and Russia have also announced the beginning of the construction of the second nuclear reactor at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant in November 2022. The planned four reactors are expected to operate at a full capacity of 4,800 MW by 2030.
